About Bwindi
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwestern Uganda, protects one of the most biologically diverse forests on the African continent. Spanning 331 square kilometres of steep, mist-covered ridges and lush valleys, the park is home to roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is widely considered the most extraordinary wildlife encounter on Earth. Small groups venture into the ancient rainforest each morning, guided by expert trackers to spend a precious hour observing a habituated gorilla family in its natural habitat.
Beyond gorillas, Bwindi shelters over 120 mammal species, 350 bird species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics, and more than 200 species of butterfly. The surrounding communities play a vital role in conservation, and visiting Bwindi means directly supporting the people who protect this irreplaceable ecosystem.
